what does burlesque/erotic movement mean to you?: Burlesque is a way for me to own my own body and sexuality in ways that no one else can. It gives me confidence, power and autonomy. I feel that I can express my desires, feelings, fantasies and past through movement & creativity without judgement. Performing allows me to be worshiped & lusted for; it enables me to make statements and protests; and it encourages me to be opinionated, authentic and weird.
what attracted you to being a part of our Troupe?: I wanted to be a member of the Troupe for a lot of reasons!. Every time I had interacted with Troupe members, they had been welcoming, kind, and up-lifting. The Troupe gives space for all types of bodies and expressions while cultivating a supportive, dynamic and creative safe space. EQB celebrates sexuality in any form, members express and value each person with the same respect and love. Being a part of the Troupe means that I am contributing to more opportunities, more acceptance, and more visibility for all types of queer people. While this is more common in Austin, it is not the same in other places. Having a space here helps make similar Troupes possible in other places. It gives me a non-judgmental Austin family where I don’t have to hide in hopes that it will become more and more “normal” for us all to exist exactly as we are everywhere in the world. ❤️
