I know that my lineage has ties to Spain and Mexico, and I am proud of my ancestry; though, unfortunately, I did not grow up with a ton of Spanish or Mexican influence or culture.

what does burlesque mean to you?: I wrote the following blurb back when I first started performing burlesque, and it still feels relevant. ‘Burlesque is, to me: peaceful protest; a challenge for sensual censorship; a structure on which to raise awareness for body positivity, sex positivity, and sexual health; and a benediction, for all, for self-love.’

Now that I’m a full-grown boss, Rebel’s burlesque is also about femme visibility, queering the norm, and self-care. As someone who lives with mental illness and chronic pain, I have found that dance, and more specifically self-intended erotic movement*, is one of the best ways I can practice caring for my body & mind, and it helps keep the pain at bay.

what attracted you to creating this Troupe?: After a 9 year hiatus from performing burlesque, I wanted to get back into it and I knew I wanted to do that specifically with other queers. I feel so grateful that these wonderful humans want to collaborate together on making erotic theatre!
